His designs are a fixture on the Cannes red carpet, he has dressed notable women, and he has just unveiled his AW22/23 Couture collection. Themed Rhombus, Nakad unveiled his collection digitally, one that exudes South Asian flair. A rhombus is a shape, a quadrilateral with four sides that all have the same length.
The house has dressed notable women from Giuliana Rancic, who wore a shiny Ziad Nakad gown for the Emmys; Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere, who wore the brand for a magazines cover; Mexican singer Thalia has also worn Ziad Nikad on the red carpet; as well as American singer Nicole Scherzinger.
“I would describe my collection for this season as strong, deep and different. It is a mixture of civilizations that keeps pace with the taste of the modern lady, complete and integrated,” states Nakad. Choosing the rhombus for its diamond-shaped design because it elongates the female silhouette. The woman in this collection comes from the East, but is modern and elegant.
Architecture was the focal point of the collection, and the inspiration of where Lebanese couture skill and collide with India. An Indian empress wearing a luxurious gown that’s both feminine while giving complements to her strong aura is another element to the collection.
“Beirut is the setting of the architectural beauty that hosted the Fall/Winter 2022-23 Couture catwalk. It is Nakad’s homage to his homeland Lebanon, a country that merges tales of different époques and is repeatedly adapting to challenges and the fast life of today,” notes the house.
A red pleated gown with a thigh high slit is sumptuous with its dramatic upper body design. The left arm has a dramatic design, while the right side, off-the-shoulder is an entirely different design of its own, yet elegant. A deep purple pleated gown from top to bottom has flamboyant shoulders. And a spring green gown with a turtle neck collar has an embroidered bodice and sleeves with a thigh high slit.
Cape sleeves are prevalent throughout the collection. Choosing a color palette set in the range of metallic shades of rose gold, light gray, ruby red, emerald green, and sapphire blue. Using materials from leather, velvet, and silk the house would adorn with Swarovski crystals, and sequins. The embroidery is another element, a large element of the Ziad Nakad aesthetic of this oriental craft to form arabesque mosaic of gown masterpieces.
