The interest and demand for plant-based food in Miami have grown exponentially over the years. Vegan restaurants serving an array of cuisines have popped up in various neighborhoods, most (non-vegan) restaurants have at least a number of plant-based items on their menus. For vegans, vegetarians or plant-curious diners, there’s no longer any shortage of options in Miami.

We asked some of Miami’s vegans—food blogger Dominique Ebra, jewelry designer Dionea Orcini, holistic hair stylist and yoga instructor Alex Mason and bodybuilder Torre Washington to share their local favorites with us— as well as some of their favorite vegan dishes at non-vegan restaurants.

Vegan Restaurants

L’Artisane Creative Bakery

“This bakery is truly superb!” Dominique Ebra, vegan blogger and founder of Miami Vegans gushes about the first French vegan bakery in the US, helmed by Caracas-born and raised chef Carolina Molea, located in Coral Gables. “Everything they offer, both savory and sweet, is divine, and is my favorite way to indulge.” Jewelry designer Dionea Orcini, owner of her namesake Orcini Design Studio, is in agreement. “The French patisserie is out of this world! The best almond croissant you’ll ever have, and without butter!” Ebra also recommends their nocciolota croissants and monkey bread. P.S. They ship nationwide.

Planta Queen

At Planta Queen, the plant-based modern Asian restaurant helmed by chef David Lee, located at the heart of Coconut Grove, sushis (nigiris and rolls) are the name of the game. “One of the most unexpected dishes and flavors is the unagi eggplant nigiri with caramelized caramelized truffle miso on the top, and the ahi watermelon Nigiri with ginger and citrus soy—definitely a must!” recommends Orcini. “A warm starter to die for is also the baked crab roll. It’s unbelievable tasty and surprisingly made with shredded hearts of palms and ponzu.”

“[I] love the decor and vibe here,” adds Alex Mason, holistic hair stylist at Root and Bark and yoga instructor at Fuze House. Mason, who often enjoys weekend dinners with friends, recommends their pad Thai slaw, and “all their sushi, especially the rainbow roll and crispy rice roll,”— which are $8, every (Maki) Monday!

Love Life Café / Shido

“[I go to Love Life Cafe] for the ‘Best Veggie Burger in America’ yes, that is the name because it’s true!” says Ebra of their signature burger that won the burger battle at Seed Food & Wine Festival in 2016. “I also love their taco salad. It’s my go-to spot to enjoy a healthy take on classic favorites, whether breakfast, lunch or dinner.” Mason adds that as it’s located in the heart of Wynwood, it’s a great place to take friends or anyone curious to explore vegan dishes. He recommends the kale salad, lentil soup, pizza verde, mudslide cheesecake and the raw Twix bar made by raw vegan chef Carla Martins.

Orcini also enjoys Love Life Cafe’s soups, salads and bowls, but she shares that the reason she goes there is to order from Shido, their plant-based Japanese pop-up. “My favorites are the sushi pizza which uses crispy sticky rice as a pizza dough, a then topped with deliciousness that range from sweet (plantains) to spicy and tangy. All the sushi rolls are beautiful executed and a delight to look at, and of course delicious. To name a few… Truffle and Mushrooms roll, Dynamite Roll, Caribbean Queen Roll, Thai Curry roll.”

Manna Life Food

The fast-casual restaurant in downtown Miami is one of vegan bodybuilder Torre Washington’s top picks. “Its menu is very organic and Miami Latin style with a twist,” he shares. “The waffles are amazing with or without syrup, and the arepas are to. die for.”

Organic Food Kings

“Who can resist a good burger and fries once in a while?” poses Washington, on one of his other favorites, the all-vegan food truck, located in Midtown. “Great music and late-night food.” He recommends ordering “any of the burgers with loaded fries.”

Minty Z

“Dim sum is always a good idea, especially at Minty Z!” Ebra says. Founded by husband and wife (and former New Yorkers) tandem, executive chef Alex Falco and Huimin “Minty” Zhu, who runs the front of house, Minty Z started out at Coconut Grove Farmers Market, before opening as a full-service restaurant in December 2020 at the heart of Coconut Grove. “The intimate spot offers so many delicious dishes that it leaves you longing for more each time.”

Full Bloom

“This OG planted its roots in Miami back in 2015 and has been serving us flavor-packed dishes, like their homemade ravioli, ever since,” shares Ebra. The restaurant helmed by owner Omar Barberini and Venezuelan-born vegan executive chef Chris Rojas, was also awarded Best US Vegan Restaurant by TripAdvisor in 2021. “The food isn’t the only thing that I love about Full Bloom; the knowledgeable, passionate, and friendly staff makes this inconspicuous restaurant one of the best.”

Dominique Ebra:

“Cecconi’s Miami Beach: Gemelli kale pesto, peas, rice “bacon.”

Jrk!: Vegan jerk bowl and vegan Jamaican patty

Chotto Matte Miami: King mushroom oyster tostadas

Manjay: Vegan roti and vegan bowl

Eclectico Miami: Fake it Till You Make It tacos, and the croqueta coquetas

Tanuki: Eggplant tofu toban, and Mushroom hot pot.”

Dionea Orcini:

“Doma: Baby roasted eggplant with purple cauliflower, Spaghetti a la Puttanesca, (traditionally made with anchovies, capers, tomatoes and olives but without anchovies for a vegan version)

Zuma: Tomato and smoked eggplant salad, different robata vegetables, rice hotpot with mushrooms, spicy fried tofu

Mila: Wild mushroom hotpot risotto that can be made vegan

Jaya at The Setai: The curries, lentil dishes and vegetable stews offered during their Sunday brunch

Tree of Life Cafe at Faena Hotel Miami Beach: A nice choice of fresh salads options, while seating outside in the breezy courtyard at the Faena”

Alex Mason:

“Abba TLV: All the dips, hummus and babaganoush, smashed avocado, tahini and the fatoosh salad with extra side of veggies, pita and tahini

Ice Box Cafe: Vegan green curry— you get what vegetables you like in your dish— jasmine rice.”
