Las Vegas and its tourist attractions change so often that it can be hard to keep up. So much of the strip is unrecognizable from its first boom in the 1950s. Even Downtown, once the more “authentic” feel of Vegas, is beginning to be gentrified with the addition of Circa and now the Plaza having a makeover.

Even with the pandemic, Vegas has had plenty of changes over the last few years, with the opening of the first new hotel on the strip for many years with Resorts World. So what is new for summer 2022 that you should check out on your next visit?

The hotel – The ENGLiSH Hotel from Tribute Portfolio

Opened in April 2022, the latest Vegas hotel is situated in the up-and-coming arts district. It’s a far cry from the mega-hotels on the strip with only 74 rooms. The ENGLiSH hotel is part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio and so gives another upmarket option close to Downtown. Marriott is somewhat lagging behind Hilton in well-situated hotels at the more luxurious end, with only the Cosmopolitan, Westin, and Grand Chateau close to the main tourist areas.

Its location is close to the North Outlets Mall and around a 15-20 minute walk to Downtown and attractions such as the Mob Museum and the Downtown Container Park. However, the street it is in may feel a little deserted at night compared to what tourists are used to. The 18b Art District is one of Vegas’s most unique and culturally diverse neighborhoods with plenty of murals to enjoy and an eclectic mix of stores, galleries, events, bars, and dining.

The hotel is a joint venture with celebrity chef Todd English, whose restaurant and bar, The Pepper Club, is the heart of the hotel. The English Hotel is for ages 21+ and given its small number of rooms has an upscale boutique hotel feel. The hotel is aimed at those who want to stay a little way from the strip at a reasonable price in something more bespoke but still luxurious. The secluded pool is a far cry from the bustle of many strip pools, and you can have delicious Pepper Club food delivered to your lounger poolside or on room service. Unlike many strip hotels, there’s a shallow area for wallowing and a good mix of day beds and loungers with no charge.

The Pepper Club is an Asian Ocean Fusion and Sushi Bar and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with brunch until 3 pm at weekends. As well as more traditional sushi dishes, the menu features modern fusion dishes such as Genghis short ribs with black pepper teriyaki, fingerling potatoes, pearl onions, broccolini, and pineapple.

The rooms feel spacious and feel like they hark back to the glamourous twenties in some respects with its luggage side tables and black and gold decor. However, it is still full of modern surprises. It’s not the in-room cocktail carts causing a stir but the completely see-through bathroom! There are ways to make it more private, but it’s definitely one for the more confident couples!

The restaurant and bar – Nusr-et restaurant

One of the latest openings in Vegas is the Nusr-et restaurant by celebrity butcher Salt Bae situated at The Park by The Strip.

Despite receiving some stiff criticism in London, the Vegas restaurant offers a lot and is the perfect fit for the party city. The menu features the usual mix of premium cuts of beef that can even be coated in gold leaf (although not tasting of anything, it’s unclear why anyone would want to do this). Steak is carved at the table and seasoned at a height in the traditional Salt Bae way.

The restaurant is more about entertainment than food in some respects; however, the food is still high quality and, above all, tastes great. If you are concerned about the cost, it works out cheaper than the London restaurant because most dishes are large enough for at least two people. You won’t have to worry about winning big at the casino to afford a meal here if you don’t go for the gold leaf.

The restaurant and bar have an electric atmosphere with club-style music, so it may not be the best venue for a romantic dinner a deux. However, if you want a fun dinner or drinks, it’s the perfect Vegas venue. It’s worth a visit just for a drink, thanks to award-winning barman Atilla Iskifoglu who specializes in show or flair bartending. If you are unsure what this means, you are in the right ballpark if you can picture Tom Cruise in Cocktail. Atilla’s cocktail making is a step further, with dry ice and magical illusions being used to conjure up a bespoke cocktail to your personal taste if you wish.

The show – Mad Apple by Cirque du Soleil

The latest show by Vegas show giants, Cirque du Soleil, is appropriately situated at the New York New York hotel theatre. The new show named Mad Apple is full of everything New York, featuring acrobatics, music, dance, magic, and comedy starring Brad Williams. It’s slightly different from the usual Cirque du Soleil shows and more similar to a large stage production of Absinthe but with more acrobatics.

Pre-show magic and a unique bar help you get ready for the show with a cocktail. Unusually, the bar is set into the stage, emulating a New York nightclub. You can expect to hear the band playing the biggest musical hits inspired by the city.

Each of the six acts is meant to be like a snapshot from a different side of New York nightlife, making the show a mix of nightclub, theatre, comedy, and acrobatics. It’s aimed at adults with some somewhat risque humor, so perhaps not best for those easily offended. Tickets start from €59.
