Manifesting your dreams is no longer just an airy-fairy Disneyland wish.
Since Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret documentary hit the mainstream in 2008, we’ve seen an entire cottage industry that has popped up based around the premise of the film (and now bestselling book), which is basically, that you can make your dreams come true by picturing them in your mind, first and foremost, and expecting the best to happen. It’s called the law of attraction, even Oprah Winfrey counts herself a fan.
“See yourself living in abundance, and you will attract it,” said Bob Proctor, one of the authors featured in The Secret. “It works every time with every person.”
Celebrities have spoken publicly about how they used the law of attraction to make their dreams come true, like Issa Rae, who told Vanity Fair that she created a vision board that almost predicted her career success in TV, while model Ashley Graham explained she is a huge fan of daily affirmations. “If you speak it, if you write it, and if you put action behind it, you can have it,” Graham said on YouTube. “That’s not magic, it’s common sense.”

One key to making your dreams come true is of course, writing them down. But hiding your goal, wish or dream away in a notebook won’t help it come true. Yes, many people write them down on post-It notes and stick it to their bathroom mirror. But if you leave the house often, what’s the point? Why not take your dream along with you, everywhere you go?
That’s the concept behind Vision of Self, a jewelry company that allows wearers to write down their dreams on a scroll, roll it up and place it inside a stylish hollow cylinder, which can be worn around your neck or wrist until the vision has been achieved or manifested. The brand, which launched this spring, has roughly a dozen different styles in 18-karat plated gold, silver and rose gold, in gender-neutral styles.
“Manifesting your dreams forces you to clearly define what you want and then sets you on a path to achieving it. It’s like planting a seed,” said the Vision of Self brand’s founder, Bernard Smith. “Jewelry alone doesn’t hold much power, until it’s given meaning. But what makes Vision Of Self so powerful, is a different kind of experience – it’s positive writing combined with jewelry as a constant reminder of your dreams.”

Fans of the brand include supermodels, like Joan Smalls, Coco Rocha, Soo Joo Park, Candice Swanepoel, and Maria Borges, as well as actor Gavin Casalegno, among others. Each has helped take their own star-studded careers to the next level with “manifesting slogans” about love, career and health.
“Manifesting your dreams is important because you can literally create your own reality – it’s just about how you cultivate the mind – and who doesn’t want to live their best life?” asks Smith. “While Vision Of Self jewelry can be used as a tool for manifesting, it’s also useful for intention and goal setting, mindfulness, and staying connected to the things that matter most.”
A recent study by Dr. Gail Matthews, a psychology professor at Dominican University of California, found that people are 42% more likely to achieve their goals and dreams by writing them down on a daily basis.

“By writing down your intentions, goals and dreams and wearing it inside our jewelry, where it stays close to your heart, or pulse, allows you to focus your thoughts on what you want like never before,” said Smith, “and that attention and energy is at the core of what makes Vision Of Self and manifestation so unique and powerful.”
The pieces range from the VOS Icon Necklace, which is their most popular item, and has a dangling cylinder, to the VOS Eternity Necklace, which lays the cylinder horizontally. They also have a matte black Onyx Bead Bracelet, which is their best-selling bracelet for men.

“We each have hopes, goals and dreams but most lose sight of them,” said Smith.

“Too often, people don’t know where to start or have too much going on in their daily lives, making it challenging to stay focused,” he explains.
“Writing down your goals and dreams brings you one step closer to making them a reality; we empower people to focus their thoughts and energy on looking at their dream, which they can carry with them, every single day.”
Each jewelry comes with “reminder cards,” or rectangular pieces of paper that can repeat the same goal or dream that’s inside the actual jewelry. These cards are meant to be placed on your desk or bedside table, as a reminder of your current goal.
Some of the dreams could be “I am now healthy,” or “I now have found my soulmate,” or “I am now making a living at my dream job.” Each piece of jewelry comes with five small “intention papers” smaller pieces of paper (pictured above, center) that you write on, roll up and place inside each cylinder, alongside five reminder cards.

Founding a brand like Vision of Self has been a dream come true to Smith, who is also the founder of Modellounge, an exclusive New York City based community space and platform for fashions leading female models. Just as Modellounge is preparing a collaboration for New York Fashion Week in September with the luxury car brand Alfa Romeo, Smith has more dreams he’d like to come true.
“We’d love to make Oprah’s holiday list,” he said. “Right now, I’m just excited and grateful for this opportunity to play a role in helping as many people as possible achieve their dreams and live their best life.”
