As sunnier climes hit, it’s essential to protect the hair, whether it be from sun damage, salt water, or chlorine. And here to help is Omar El Gharbawy, of the International Education Team from Balmain Hair Couture, who has shared his top tips for looking after your hair as temperatures rise.

Tip 1: Sun protection spray

Like sunblock on your face when you go outside, it is essential to use a similar product for your hair during summertime. A sun protection spray helps nourish and condition sun, sea and chlorine-exposed hair and prevents hair color fading and keratin damage. The number one essential this summer!


Tip 2: Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!

After a long beach day, removing impurities from the hair is essential, and a trio of a moisturizing shampoo, hair mask and moisturizing conditioner will protect and give natural shine and elasticity to your hair. Tip 4: Use your hair mask with caution

Many people are under the impression that a hair mask should be worn throughout the day, but I am here to tell you: please don’t. A hair mask has a high PH to open the cuticles and penetrate inside the hair. This effect is beneficial to nourish the hair deeply during the first 10, 20 or 30 minutes. After that, we must worry about resealing the cuticles. That is why it is advisable to rinse off the mask and apply a conditioner or styling products with lower PH.


Tip 5: Overnight repair

The easiest tip of them all is to let your hair recover overnight. Apply three drops of the liquid (depending on the length and thickness of your hair) to the palm of your hand, rub your hands together and apply it gently to towel-dry hair. The hair will look stronger, with less frizz and split ends.

Remember to protect your pillow with a towel during the night!


Tip 6: Use a hair perfume

While swimming in the pool or river might be fun during summer days, it doesn’t help your hair smell fresh and luxurious. The perfect way to fix this is by using a hair perfume with silk protein and argan elixir infused. Not only does this make your hair smell good, but it also nourishes, repairs and protects the hair.
