Have you ever taken a surfing lesson?
I have taken many over the past 30 years, and I can tell you – it’s demanding. Learning how to surf is quite the workout – no matter how good shape you are in.
After you get on your surfboard and paddle out to sea – which gives your arms and upper body some heavy-duty exercise — then you have to balance yourself ON the board and IN the water. When this is all brand new to your body.
Well, I’ve discovered a place where you can learn to surf – and get fit – on dry land.
Located on the exclusive coast of Riviera Nayarit, The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort recently began offering SurfFit. It is an innovative fitness training format inspired by one of the most popular sports in the Riviera Nayarit region: Surfing. Ideal for exercising and enjoying the rhythm of the waves, SurfFit allows guests to enjoy a workout unique to the destination.
Each SurfFit session takes place on a surfboard, which simulates the instability of the sea, offering a physical and mental workout. This innovative training at The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, provides an opportunity to move away from traditional fitness offerings and challenge the body. The design of the SurfFit board mirrors basic exercises such as squats, planks, and the warrior pose, requiring greater concentration and balance. Lessons take place on the hotel deck that overlooks the ocean.
Ideal for those who have never surfed before, or for an in-depth training that allows experienced surfers to go out to the sea with greater strength and confidence, SurfFit is a 45-minute class for all types of surfers to train their body and mind, bringing their inner surfer to life.
SurfFit incorporates movements from yoga, Pilates, and swimming, as well as balancing exercises that that mimic those done while surfing in the sea. SurfFit classes include the principles behind the science of surfing and strength training, helping to improve overall fitness, breathing, flexibility, and core strength for the surfer’s athletic physique.
Located within an exclusive beach in Mexico along the shores of Riviera Nayarit, The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort offers modern sophistication, unparalleled luxury and personalized service at one of the world’s best addresses. Designed by Roy Azar of Roy Azar Architects, the resort offers 120 elegantly furnished rooms and suites.
Here are some other unusual perks at this splendid destination.
- Signature Butler Service: Available any time-of-day guests can make requests directly from their rooms or via text/email. St. Regis Signature Butler Service takes pride in packing and unpacking services and pressing garments if needed and also provides unique amenities for traveling families to ensure that everyone has a good time.
- Remède Spa: Guests can enjoy pampering from the exclusive Remede Spa. The Spa features native ingredients and techniques to the area with treatments such as the Ocean Pearl Body Experience, which uses crushed pearls to exfoliate the skin.
- Golf Course: The resort golf course features 36 holes, courtesy of two Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses. These courses showcase a truly spectacular setting in Punta de Mita, enveloped by 380 acres of a stunning peninsula bordered by both the Pacific Ocean and the beautiful Banderas Bay.
- St. Regis Punta Mita Pool: The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort is situated on a stretch of white sandy beaches overlooking the pristine blue waters. The resort boasts three distinctive pools to fit the needs of all travelers. The Las Marietas Family Pool features a children’s pool for the littlest guests, while the Arecas Pool is secluded and designated to adults only. Additionally, the Sea Breeze Beach Club Pool offers poolside bites of Latin & European inspired dishes.
While I haven’t been to the St. Regis Punta Mita, I have indeed visited the St. Regis in Puerto Rico, where I experienced silken butler service and cashmere care in the spa. I’m sure SurfFit gets you ready to tackle the water – perhaps just like that chic trendsetter in all the news right now – Malibu Barbie.
