Buzzed about Ukrainian milliner Ruslan Baginskiy has created an exclusive Crystal Edition that’s perfect for the holiday season.
Housed in a traditional circular hat box recalling luxurious old-time travel, comes a classic felt canotier hat alongside six crystal-embellished accessories.
The necklace, hairpins, layered chain, RB logo earring and ear-cuff, and monogram brooch can be worn both as jewelry or to adorn the grosgrain band of the hat. A beautifully illustrated instruction booklet completes the set. When the box is opened, a message reads “Where inspiration brings you today.”
“This project is about individuality and personality to me. Facets are what make crystals shine, like the facets of our personality,” said brand founder Ruslan Baginskiy in a statement.
“I wanted the hat box to give way to self-expression,” he added. “Some people will just wear one accessory, others will put them on at once. It’s about how you want to feel at a given moment.”
As with the rest of the brand’s output, the Crystal Edition is both produced in and inspired by the Ukraine and spotlights Ukrainian craftsmanship. Ruslan Baninskiy which generally produces everything in-house, engaged Ukrainian jewelers to handcraft the pieces for the project.
The Crystal Edition set drew inspiration from an invitation the brand sent out to editors and fashion insiders to celebrate the launch of an exclusive seven-piece capsule collection with Luisa Via Roma earlier this year. It featured a straw bucket hat, comb and leather hair tie and came wrapped like a traditional ‘klunock’ — a cloth bundle used throughout Ukrainian history to carry treasured essentials.
An influencer favorite from its launch, Ruslan Baginskiy has been worn by the Hadid sisters, Kaia Gerber, Cindy Bruna, Selena Gomez, Black Pink, Halle Berry, Alessandra Ambrosia, Florence & The Machine and many more. Paris Hilton donned its signature safety pin baker boy hat and Emrata its diamante cowboy hat during September’s Paris Fashion Week where the brand showcased its summer 2023 collection.
Stars of the show were straw baseball caps, smashable concoctions fashioned from paper straw and an ingenious wide brimmed beach hat which folds into six segments so it can be completely flat-packed for travel.
Ruslan Baginskiy founded his namesake brand in 2015 with a mission to revitalize the headwear landscape, contextualizing traditional shapes and techniques for the contemporary market. Originally based in Kiev, the brand shifted its team and production to Liev at the beginning of the war to avoid the worst of the Russian air-strikes experienced by the Ukrainian capital.
