It was known as the Chalet dos Caldas e Vasconcelos when it was built at the turn of the 20th century in the Belle Epoque style then popular in the south of France and spreading elsewhere in Europe. Situated beachfront on the Atlantic while also bordering the village of Armação de Pêra, it was one family’s holiday beach house for 80 years. Now, after a sale and an extensive renovation, the house retitled The Red Chalet is opening for rental on July 1st as part of the VILA VITA Collection of luxury houses in Portugal’s southern region The Algarve.
As a designation of its heritage, the house was listed as a historical building and many original facets of the house were maintained in the renovation: the wooden floors, antique chandeliers, the imposing staircase, the geometric designs on the shutters and ceilings. The décor, however, was brought up to the minute with plush, contemporary furniture, sophisticated fabrics and vivid colors including the two bedrooms in strong primary colors, one in various shades of red, the other, a deep royal blue.
Another two bedrooms are located in the guest house known as The White House which echoes the style of the main house but in a more contemporary design. Whitewashed floors and walls, contemporary furniture in clean lines with pops of color-aqua and yellow-light wood tables and rattan chairs and light fixtures are the design touches here in line with the more casual style of a typical beach house.
As part of the villa collection which is managed by the resort VILA VITA Parc, the property features extra services for guests: daily housekeeping; daily breakfast; a welcome hamper of requested food to stock the house. A private butler can be retained to organize activities, visits and transport as well as a private chef. The Vila Vita yacht can also be chartered for cruises along the coastline, past beaches and rugged cliffs or for a day on a secluded beach. A private wellness retreat can also be arranged with a program of trainers, chefs and practitioners set up within the villa. And authentic experiences in the region can be arranged, from boat trips to the famous sea caves to visits to artisan food producers and local villages to learn about gastronomy, culture, art and music. Golfers can also have tee times arranged on one of several local golf courses.
Villa guests also have the option of using the facilities of the sister resort a four minute drive away. Among the options: a new 17,250 square foot Sisley spa with 14 treatment rooms, a Pilates studio and HYPOXI* Studio for body contouring. There are also 11 restaurants from Michelin starred Portuguese cuisine to Moroccan and Japanese and a 1200 bottle wine cellar. The resort also has seven swimming pools in case villa guests need a change from swimming in the ocean to swimming laps. And if they need a jolt of nightlife, the resort has V-Club, a new disco.
