If you’re planning a trip to the mountains this winter, APPARIS SKI newest capsule is the chic collection you need. It’s colorful, fashionable, vegan and the brand’s first foray into this category. Here designer Lauren Nouchi shares how her childhood skiing in France helped inspire the collection and how to wear the playful pieces on the slopes.
Tell me about your newest collection SKI. What inspired you to create it?
Lauren Nouchi: Two years in the making, it was only natural for APPARIS to expand into the ski category. We started the brand in 2016, and by listening to feedback from our customers, we learned that so many of them were in search of edgy, bold, and on-trend ski wear at an attractive price. Raised in France, I grew up skiing, and always remember how excited I felt to put on my color-coordinated outfit and chic accessories. With the launch of the APPARIS SKI capsule, I wanted to bring that same feeling back and empower other women to feel sexy and fashionable whether on the slopes, hanging at the lodge, or going tubing with their friends and family.
Winter clothing is often associated with leather and fur but your brand is vegan, what are some of the materials you used?
This all started with our trademarked, recycled Pluche™ faux fur, the softest and most luxe fabrication we could find — but we knew we needed to do more. From there, our vegan leathers, plant-based fur and shearling, cashmere alternatives, and recycled knitwear were born. For next season, we’re actually introducing an apple-based leather, which is something super new and innovative for the outerwear market. As a designer, I feel a responsibility to push beyond the status quo of the industry and challenge our brand to do better. With an environmentally conscious mindset engrained in our DNA, all APPARIS pieces are and will continue to be 100 percent vegan and cruelty-free.
Where do you see your clothes being worn?
The APPARIS SKI “uniform” can be worn anywhere from the chic chalets of Aspen to the snow-dusted peaks of Courchevel — but also in New York City during a very cold, snowy day. In addition to classic ski jackets, we wanted to create pieces that can go from day to night with ease. Our bold knitwear and cozy accessories are the perfect complement to your winter wardrobe, and are meant to be worn and loved for many years to come. Whether sipping hot cocoa by the fire or popping a bottle of bubbly at the lodge — staying warm from the slopes to après has never looked so luxe.
Tell me more about some of the individual pieces of the collection and when someone would wear them this winter.
For a beautiful sunny day in Aspen, I would recommend our Belted Odin Metallic Puffer. I am obsessed with the Pluche™ faux fur collar and think it pairs perfectly with the Jo Cream Ski Pants — their slim fit and flared leg lend themselves to the most flattering look. To add some edge, I would also toss on our Rizzo Sweater in Candy Red, because who doesn’t love a pop of color? For a night on the town, I would wear our Kat Sequin Puffer — it’s a statement piece that will have all eyes on you. Pair it with our vegan shearling mittens & headbands for an unexpected street style look. Lastly, I absolutely love our Willa Rainbow Cardigan. We are known for our bold colors, so it was important for us to offer a vibrant piece that can brighten anyone’s day.
What are your favorite places to ski?
When I think of a ski getaway, I’m immediately transported back home to France. I love Megève, Courchevel, and Meribel — it feels magical and the snow is simply the best — I think the powder glistens brighter there than anywhere else in the world. My favorite place to après in Courchevel is the famous dessert bar at Chalet Pierre, the strawberry tart is just divine!
Where can people shop APPARIS SKI in stores?
APPARIS SKI will be on display alongside our Fall Winter ‘22 collection at our showroom located at 253 Canal Street in NYC. As always, customers will be able to shop directly from the space — a super fun and personalized experience for anyone looking to stop by.
