He’s ten years into being on the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode calendar and Giambattista Valli let everyone know it last night during his AW22 runway show in Paris’ in Place Vendôme. Fashionably late to start, the room saw the likes of Anna Wintour; Oscar-winning costume designer Catherine Martin, whose costumes adorn the new film Elvis; Suzie Menkes, Robbie Williams, Olivia Palermo, and François Pinault, CEO of Kering but he has a stake in Giambattista Valli through the investment company Artemis.
The moment right before the finale was captivating, but first, as guests arrived they noticed the wall filled with colorful and metallic balloons. Valli has a signature style of diving into flamboyant silhouettes, pussy bows- lots of pussy bows, and baby doll-esque dresses.
In a club-like atmosphere models began to descend the runway. Fifty ish looks walked on one side of the room, then the other. There was no shortage of tulle that made up many of the gowns. One gown just swam in a sea of mustard yellow, while another, a 50s style dress with an ankle-length hem had lush skirting with tulle covering, and Valli made mermaid style gowns with tulle.
The opening looks started in white with crystal embellishments, another gown was flamboyancy overload of an animal print gown with a dramatic bow in the shoulder and waist, coupled with a flowing cape adorned with white feathers. Retro vibes fill the collection with hints to the 50s and 60s, and goddess inspired gowns give a nod to the 70s.
The last look, the bridal gown was done not in white but in blush pink, in a mermaid style. The neckline plunged and a wide V, with an adjoining tulle cape and matching veil flow behind it.
But the show stopping effect was when six models came out with six reimaged versions of a tulle skirt paired with white smocks. This textile is a favorite of Valli and he paid homage to it. The smocks had the house logo on the front pocket and were given a fun touch with a black belt.
A well laid out presentation, filled with colors and shapes of all sizes for every kind of woman.
