Quite frankly Maria Grazia Chiuri is one of the most down-to-earth fashion designers and creative directors that you could meet. Her couture and ready-to-wear talent precedes her, so it’s no wonder the Couture Council of The Museum at FIT (MFIT) chose to honor her this week by bestowing her with the 2022 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion in New York City.

Held at the David H. Koch Theater at the Lincoln Center, the award was centered around a luncheon where the likes of Pete Nordstrom and Rickie De Sole were in attendance. Harper’s Bazaar Editor-In-Chief Samira Nasr presented Chiuri with the award, as the CEO of The Macklowe Whiskey Julie Macklowe and Kara Ross co-chaired the event.

Wearing a black pants suit with double-breasted jacket with sneakers, and her blonde hair parted on one side and slicked back into a pony tail, the Dior creative director exuded luxurious simplicity. Nasr’s laid-back style included fitted yet baggy-ish black pants and a tucked in white t-shirt with the words: The Next Era, in black going across.

But, there was a philanthropic element to the luncheon. Nordstrom, who presented the event helped raise money for The Museum at FIT, the city’s only museum dedicated solely to the art of fashion. The museum will continue with its exhibitions, programming, and symposia, while remaining free to the public.

Other recognizable attendees included Kat Graham, Derek Blasberg, Francisco Costa, Ken Downing, Aurora James, Robin Morgan, Nina Garcia, Julia Haart, Candace Bushnell, Timo Weiland (DJ of the luncheon), Jean Shafiroff, Ramy Brook Sharp, Liz Peek, Fern Mallis, Cameron Silver, Fe Fendi, Eleanor Kennedy, Veronica Webb, Yaz Hernandez, and Dr. Valerie Steele, among others.
