Three people were injured in a shooting in the parking lot at a Six Flags Great America amusement park in Gurnee, Illinois, roughly 45 miles from Chicago, on Sunday evening. None of the victims died and none of their injuries are life-threatening, according to authorities.

Gurnee, Illinois, is a popular family destination in the Chicago area, as the home of of the Six Flags amusement park, as well as a Great Wolf Lodge and Gurnee Mills.

The Gurnee Police Department said in a statement on Facebook that the department received 911 calls around 7:50 p.m. for shots fired outside the theme park, which closes at 8 p.m. “Gurnee Police Officers immediately responded to the area and learned the suspect vehicle fled the scene,” said the release.

“The shooting this evening was not a random act, and appeared to be a targeted incident that occurred outside the park. This was not an active shooter incident inside the park,” said the statement. Park security at Six Flags Great America helped evacuate parkgoers after the incident.

In a statement issued to WGN Chicago, Six Flags said: “Six Flags dedicates our greatest amount of time, talent and resources to safety and security. Layers of preventative measures both inside and outside the park are in place for the protection of guests and team members. We continue to review and enhance our protocol on a daily basis to ensure we are providing the highest level of safety.”

“Cameras placed in the parking lot and inside the park, uniformed and plain clothes patrols throughout the property, and advanced screening technology allow us to react quickly and provide important information,” continued the Six Flags statement.

Two victims were transported to the Advocate Condell Medical Center: a 17-year-old male from Aurora, IL, with an upper thigh wound, and a 19 year-old-female from Appleton, WI, with a lower leg wound. A third victim sustained a shoulder injury and declined transport to the hospital.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Billed as the “Thrill Capital of the Midwest,” the Gurnee park is one of 27 theme parks operated by Arlington, Texas-based Six Flags, the seventh largest theme park operator in the world. Six Flags Great America features 12 themed areas and 15 roller coasters, and has an adjacent 20-acre waterpark called Hurricane Harbor Chicago.
